Day 1 Arrive in Paris, France
Welcome to Paris! At 5:30 p.m., meet your Tour Director and traveling companions, and leave the hotel for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant and an orientation drive for a first impression of the “City of Light”.

Day 2 Paris

In the morning, an optional excursion is available to the impressive Palace and Garden of Versailles, built by the “Sun King,” Louis XIV. Guided sightseeing features the highlights of Paris, like the Arc de Triomphe, Opéra, Madeleine, and Champs-Elysées. Visit the impressive COURTYARD of Les Invalides, a complex of buildings, originally built as a home and hospital for war veterans, which houses various museums as well as the Dome Church, burial place of Napoleon. This evening, why not join an optional cabaret show?

Day 3 Paris Caen–Normandy Beaches
Arrive in Caen and visit the fascinating MEMORIAL MUSEUM FOR PEACE with its great exhibits and audiovisual show about the Battle of Normandy. Continue to the Normandy Beaches, scene of the Allied Forces’ landing on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Stop in Arromanches and see the Mulberry Harbor. Then, drive to OMAHA BEACH for a picture stop and visit the AMERICAN CEMETERY and memorial.

Day 4 Caen–Mont St. Michel–Saint-Malo
Visit the famous ABBEY OF MONT ST. MICHEL, with a history going back to the 8th-century and spectacularly perched on a rocky isle. Look forward to another highlight: in the corsair city of Saint-Malo ride the LITTLE TRAIN, the best way to fully discover the historic walled town with Saint Vincent’s Cathedral and St. Peter’s Gate. Enjoy the panoramic views of the Gulf of Saint-Malo.

Day 5 St. Malo–Essé–Angers–Loire Valley
Enjoy a scenic drive through Brittany and stop in Essé to visit La Roche-aux-Fees, a dolmen dating back to 3500-3000 BC.  Then enter the Loire Valley and stop in Angers for an orientation of this beautiful town on your way to Blois. This evening you may wish to sample traditional cuisine at a local restaurant.

Day 6 Loire Valley–Chenonceau Castle–Bordeaux
Visit the 16th-century castle of Catherine de Medici, lovely CHENONCEAU, a fairytale castle with a moat and towers. Continue to Bordeaux, and join your Tour Director for a walking tour through this pretty city on the Garonne River. Tonight, savor dinner with wine at the well-known Brasserie Bordelaise restaurant.

Today, an exclusive WINE TASTING has been arranged for you to learn all about the local wines for which the Bordeaux area is famous. Balance of the day is at leisure with the possibility to join an optional excursion to the charming village of Saint Emilion.

Day 8 Bordeaux–Arcachon–Dune Du Pilat–Biarritz
Stop in the seaside town of Arcachon, famous for oyster harvesting, and marvel at the Dune du Pilat, the tallest sand dune in Europe. Arrive in Biarritz, an ancient fishing village. Time to relax and enjoy the beach or browse through the little shops. Your Tour Director will have suggestions how to make the most of your stay.

Day 9 Biarritz–Lourdes–Carcassonne
In Lourdes, one of the world’s most famous pilgrimage sites, visit the GROTTO where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette in 1858. Next is the beautifully preserved, medieval, walled town of Carcassonne.

Day 10 Carcassonne–Aix-en-Provence
This morning, enjoy a leisurely walk by the ancient battlements before continuing to Aix-en-Provence, one of France’s most elegant cities, and birthplace of painter Cézanne, that has always attracted artists from all over the world. Join your Tour Director for a walking tour through the center of the town and wander through the maze of small streets and along shaded Cours Mirabeau.

Day 11 Aix-en-Provence-Grasse-French Riviera
Arrive in Grasse, and visit the famous Fragonard Usine Historique, where an expert will give a lecture about PERFUME-MAKING. Then, enjoy spectacular views as you drive along the Mediterranean coast and the famous Promenade des Anglais in Nice.

Day 13 French Riviera-Orange-Lyon
Follow in the footsteps of the Romans and arrive in Orange, Visit the ROMAN THEATER, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the best-preserved examples of Roman architecture in France. Next is Lyon, the third largest city of France.

Day 14 Lyon-Dijon
Sit back and relax during a PRIVATE CRUISE on the Rhône and Sâone Rivers with a Local Guide, who will explain the sights. Time to walk through OLD LYON to discover the Traboules, secret, hidden passageways winding their way through buildings and along staircases, with a history going back to the 4th century. Continue to Dijon, capital of Burgundy and famous for mustard. During your orientation, hear about the dukes who ruled over the area, admire the architecture, and learn about toits bourguignons (Burgundian polychrome roofs).

Time to stroll around and admire the famous Hôtel-Dieu which was originally built as a hospital for the poor, and Notre Dame Basilica.

Day 4 Beaune–Pont Du Gard–Avignon–Aix-En-Provence
Stop at Pont du Gard and admire the largest remaining Roman aqueduct in France, a monumental feat of engineering completed in the year 19 BC. Continue to Avignon, a town on the Rhône River that in the 14th century became the residence of the popes. During your walking tour, take pictures of the magnificent Palace of the Popes and the famous bridge, and browse through the colorful shops that sell traditional products made in Provence, like cloth, honey, herbs, and nougat candy. Next is the pleasant town of Aix-en-Provence, where you will stay for two nights.

Capture the spirit and beauty of this magical place during your orientation drive. Later, you may wish to join an optional excursion to see the palace and royal church of Monaco town, and to try your luck at the Monte Carlo casino.

Morning at leisure to dabble in the blue Mediterranean Sea. Day 1 Arrive in Rome, Italy
Welcome to Rome! At 6 pm, meet your Tour Director and traveling companions and leave the hotel for a welcome dinner with pasta and wine at Mino restaurant.

Enjoy unique guided sightseeing, including inside visits to the VATICAN MUSEUMS and SISTINE CHAPEL with Michelangelo’s ceiling paintings and The Last Judgment, monumental ST. PETER’S SQUARE and BASILICA to admire Michelangelo’s Pietà.  Then, enjoy views of other major sites as you drive to the ROMAN FORUM to visit the amazing COLOSSEUM, where gladiators once fought. To make the most of your stay, join our optional walking tour with a Local Guide to explore famous sights like the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and more.

Day 3 Rome–Ferrara–Venice
Continue to the Adriatic coast and arrive in Venice, a powerful magnet for romantics and art lovers from all over the globe. Tonight is your chance to join an optional evening featuring a water-taxi ride along the Grand Canal, followed by a traditional Venetian dinner.

Day 4 Venice
Start out in style by private boat and meet your Local Guide. Highlights of your walking tour are ST. MARK’S SQUARE and the byzantine BASILICA, lavish DOGES’ PALACE and the BRIDGE OF SIGHS. Day 5 Venice–Ferrara — Florence
In Ferrara, walk through the impressive Este Castle to the marble cathedral and browse through the attractive little shops. Then, drive across the wooded Apennine Mountains into Tuscany and arrive in Florence, “Cradle of the Renaissance.” Tonight, why not try Tuscan specialties during an optional dinner.

Day 6 Florence
Meet your Local Guide, and visit the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS with Michelangelo’s celebrated David. Continue your walking tour through the historic center. Stand in awe in front of the magnificent cathedral, admire Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistry’s heavy bronze “Gates of Paradise,” and sculpture-studded SIGNORIA SQUARE. Afterwards, it’s your chance to shop for Florentine leather goods and gold jewelry, sold by the ounce. An optional excursion to the Uffizi Gallery is available.

Day 7 Florence–Cinque Terre–Genova
Drive through the valley of the Arno River to La Spezia on the Mediterranean Coast, for an exciting excursion to CINQUE TERRE, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including a BOAT RIDE (weather permitting) with a Local Guide. The name dates back to the 15th century and is derived from five little medieval villages standing on stony spurs along five miles of the rocky coastline: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso. From here, head for Genoa, birthplace of Christopher Columbus.

Day 8 Genova–Eze–France–French Riviera
Your Local Guide will introduce you to this amazing city, that played an important role in maritime trade for many centuries. Follow the coast towards France, then leave the highway for the panoramic Moyenne Corniche and stop in Èze. Visit the Fragonard perfume factory, beautifully located with breathtaking views of the blue Mediterranean Sea. Hear about the fascinating tradition of the art of PERFUME-MAKING, before arriving in Nice. An optional outing is available tonight to Monte Carlo.

Day 9 French Riviera. Excursion To St. Paul De Vence
A highlight visit this morning to the picturesque hilltop town of St. Paul de Vence. Explore the many art galleries and enjoy the spectacular view, or relax at a café, where you may see the locals play pétanque (lawn bowling). Return to your hotel for a lazy afternoon to dabble in the blue Mediterranean or to stroll along the elegant Promenade des Anglais.

Day 10 French Riviera–Paris
Transfer to the railway station and board the high-speed TGV TRAIN to Paris.  Today is at leisure to enjoy what this extraordinary metropolis has to offer. This evening, dinner has been included at a local restaurant where you can try out specialties like escargots (snails), soupe à l’oignon (onion soup), boeuf bourguignon (beef Burgundy), or others, followed by a drive through the “City of Light.”

Day 11 Paris
Sightseeing with a Local Guide features the most famous sights: the Opéra, Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Elysées, and a SEINE CRUISE with spectacular views of Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower.   To enhance your stay, you may wish to join an optional excursion to the lavish baroque Palace and Gardens of Versailles, built by the Sun King, Louis XIV. Tonight, an optional dinner and show at the famous Moulin Rouge may be the best way to say, “Au revoir, Paris.”
