Day 1 Arrive in Paris, France
Welcome to Paris! At 5:30 p.m., meet your Tour Director and traveling companions, and leave the hotel for a welcome dinner with wine at one of Paris’ lively restaurants. Then, take the elevator to the second floor of the EIFFEL TOWER to get a first impression of the “City of Light.”

Day 2 Paris

Guided sightseeing features the highlights of Paris, like the Arc de Triomphe, Opéra, Madeleine, and Champs-Elysées. Visit magnificent NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL and admire its Rose Window. Optional excursions are available to the impressive Palace and Gardens of Versailles, built by the “Sun King,” Louis XIV, as well as to the artists’ hill of Montmartre, followed by a cruise on the beautiful Seine River.

Day 3 Paris–Honfleur–Bayeux
A pleasant drive through the rural area west of Paris takes you to the picturesque town of Honfleur with its enclosed harbor. Time to explore both towns before heading to Bayeux, where you can admire QUEEN MATILDA’S TAPESTRY, depicting in extraordinary detail William the Conqueror’s conquest of England.

Day 4 Bayeux–Normandy Beaches–Mont St. Michel–St. Malo
On to the Normandy Beaches, scene of the Allied Forces’ landing on D-Day, June 6th, 1944, stop at OMAHA BEACH and visit the AMERICAN CEMETERY.  Enjoy an included before you visit the famous ABBEY OF MONT ST. MICHEL, spectacularly perched on a rocky isle in the Gulf of Saint Malo, .

Day 5 St. Malo–Essé–Angers–Loire Valley
Enjoy a scenic drive through Brittany and stop in Essé to visit La Roche-aux-Fees, a dolmen dating back to 3500-3000 BC.  Then enter the Loire Valley and stop in Angers for an orientation of this beautiful town on your way to Blois. This evening you may wish to sample traditional cuisine at a local restaurant.

Day 6 Loire Valley–Chenonceau Castle–Bordeaux
Visit the 16th-century castle of Catherine de Medici, lovely CHENONCEAU, a fairytale castle with a moat and towers. Continue to Bordeaux, and join your Tour Director for a walking tour through this pretty city on the Garonne River. Tonight, savor dinner with wine at the well-known Brasserie Bordelaise restaurant.

Day 7 Bordeaux. Excursion to St. Emilion
In the morning you can join an optional excursion to Arcachon. Situated at the southern entrance of the Atlantic Ocean, Arcachon Bay is crowned by Europe’s largest sand dune, the Dune de Pyla. This afternoon, your highlight is a visit to St. Emilion, where an exclusive WINE TASTING at Château Soutard awaits you.

Day 8 Bordeaux–Biarritz–Lourdes
A wonderful stop at the coast to visit Biarritz, an ancient fishing village turned trendy seaside resort. Continue to Lourdes, one of the world’s most famous places of pilgrimage. Visit the GROTTO where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette in 1858, and this evening, join the memorable rosary and candlelight procession.

Day 9 Lourdes–Carcassonne–Nîmes
From Lourdes to the beautifully preserved, medieval, walled town of Carcassonne for a leisurely walk on the ancient BATTLEMENTS and time to explore the town on your own. Continue to Nîmes for your overnight stay. Find out what both this city and Genoa, in Italy, have to do with jeans!

Day 10 Nîmes–Grasse–Nice
This morning, arrive in Grasse, and visit the famous Fragonard Usine Historique, where an expert will give a lecture about PERFUME-MAKING. Then, drive along the Mediterranean coast and the famous Promenade des Anglais in Nice, where you will stay for two nights. An optional excursion to Monte Carlo is available.

Enjoy this enchanting resort on the Côte d’Azur at your own pace. Visit the beach or browse through the elegant shops; you may wish to join an optional excursion to the famous artist town of St. Paul de Vence.

Day 12 Nice–Aix-en-Provence, France–Lyon
Drive through the splendid vineyards of Languedoc-Roussillon and arrive at Aix-en-Provence, one of France’s most elegant cities. It was the birthplace of painter Cézanne, and has always attracted artists from all over the world. Follow your Tour Director for a walking tour through the center of the town. Then, join the main highway of France, the Route du Soleil, to Lyon, and enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and its Roman ruins from FOURVIÈRE HILL.

Day 13 Lyon–Dijon
Start today with a PRIVATE  RIVER CRUISE on the Rhône and Sâone Rivers with a Local Guide who will explain the sights. Time to walk through OLD LYON and see the Murales, examples of trompe l’oeil, started by a group of students in the ‘70s. Continue to Dijon, capital of Burgundy. During your orientation, hear about the various dukes who ruled over the area, then there is time to browse the shops and enjoy this charming city.

Day 4 Beaune–Pont Du Gard–Avignon–Aix-En-Provence
Stop at Pont du Gard and admire the largest remaining Roman aqueduct in France, a monumental feat of engineering completed in the year 19 BC. Continue to Avignon, a town on the Rhône River that in the 14th century became the residence of the popes. During your walking tour, take pictures of the magnificent Palace of the Popes and the famous bridge, and browse through the colorful shops that sell traditional products made in Provence, like cloth, honey, herbs, and nougat candy. Next is the pleasant town of Aix-en-Provence, where you will stay for two nights.

Day 5 Aix-En-Provence
Aix-en-Provence is one of France’s most elegant cities. It was the birthplace of painter Cézanne, and has always attracted artists from all over. Explore its center during your walking tour, wander through the maze of small streets and along shaded Cours Mirabeau, and enjoy a café au lait with calissons (a traditional French confectionery) at the historical café Les Deux Garҫons. Balance of the day is at leisure.

Day 6 Aix-En-Provence–St. Paul De Vence–Monte Carlo, Monaco
Enjoy a highlight visit to the picturesque hilltop town of St. Paul de Vence. Marvel at the many art galleries and little shops. Then, turn to the glittering Mediterranean Sea and arrive in Nice, “Queen of the Riviera.” Drive along the famous Promenade des Anglais and continue along the scenic Basse Corniche to the tiny country of Monaco, built on a rocky peninsula and famed for its nightlife. Capture the spirit and beauty of this magical place during your orientation drive. Later, you may wish to join an optional excursion to see the palace and royal church of Monaco town, and to try your luck at the Monte Carlo casino.

Day 7 Monte Carlo. Excursion to Nice & Èze, France
Morning at leisure to dabble in the blue Mediterranean Sea. Tonight is your chance to join an optional evening excursion featuring a private water-taxi ride along the Grand Canal, followed by a traditional Venetian dinner.

Start out in style by private boat and meet your Local Guide. Highlights of your walking tour are ST. MARK’S SQUARE and the byzantine BASILICA, lavish DOGES’ PALACE and the BRIDGE OF SIGHS. Day 5 Venice–Florence

Drive across the wooded Apennine Mountains into Tuscany and arrive in Florence, “Cradle of the Renaissance.”   Your guided walking tour features a visit to the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS with Michelangelo’s celebrated David. Admire the magnificent cathedral, Giotto’s Bell Tower, and the Baptistry’s heavy bronze “Gate of Paradise,” and visit sculpture-studded SIGNORIA SQUARE. Enter Piazza Santa Croce and check out the enticing shops with Florentine leather goods and gold jewelry.

Day 6 Florence–Pisa–Cinque Terre–Genova

In Pisa, marvel at the amazing Leaning Tower, 180 feet high and 12 feet out of the perpendicular. Continue to La Spezia on the Mediterranean Coast and enjoy your excursion to  CINQUE TERRE, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including a BOAT RIDE (weather permitting) with a Local Guide. The name dates back to the 15th century and is derived from five little medieval villages standing on stony spurs along five miles of the rocky coastline: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso.  From here, take the TRAIN and head for Genova, birthplace of Christopher Columbus.

Day 7 Florence–Pisa–Èze–France–Nice

An orientation gives you a good impression of this amazing city, and there is time to explore the Porto Antico before your drive along the coast towards France with spectacular views of Italian and French Riviera resorts. Leave the highway for the panoramic Moyenne Corniche and stop in Èze.  Visit the Fragonard perfume factory, learn about the fascinating history of the art of PERFUME-MAKING, and receive a souvenir gift to take home with you. Arrive in Nice. An optional outing is available tonight to Monte Carlo.

Day 8 Nice. Excursion To St. Paul De Vence

A highlight visit this morning to the picturesque hilltop town of St. Paul de Vence. Explore the many art galleries and enjoy the spectacular view, or relax at a café, where you may see the locals play pétanque (lawn bowling). Return to Nice for a lazy afternoon to dabble in the blue Mediterranean or to stroll along the elegant Promenade des Anglais.

Day 9 Nice–Paris

Transfer to the railway station and board the high-speed TGV TRAIN to Paris.  Today is at leisure to enjoy what this extraordinary metropolis has to offer. This evening, a special dinner with wine has been included at a local restaurant where you can try out specialties like escargots (snails), soupe à l’oignon (onion soup), boeuf bourguignon (beef Burgundy), or others, followed by a drive through the “City of Light.”

Day 10 Paris

Sightseeing with a Local Guide features the most famous sights: the Opéra, Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Elysées, and more. Day 3 Paris–Rouen–Beuvron-En-Auge–Caen

In Rouen, admire the façade of the cathedral, which was one of Monet’s favorite subjects for his Series Paintings, where he tried to prove how a subject was visually influenced by the ever-changing light. Twenty paintings of the cathedral existed, and many are today in Paris’ Orsay Museum. Time to stroll along the lovely cobblestoned Rue du Gros-Horloge leading to the square where Joan of Arc was burned in 1431. Next, stop in Beuvron-en-Auge along the Route du Cidre for a CIDER TASTING, before arriving in Caen. Look forward to a visit to the fascinating MEMORIAL MUSEUM FOR PEACE with its great exhibits and audiovisual show about the Battle of Normandy.

Day 4 Caen–Normandy Beaches–Mont St. Michel

Focus on the scene of the Allied Forces’ landing on D-Day, June 6th, 1944. Drive by Juno Beach, then stop at Gold Beach for a view of the Mulberry Harbor remains at Arromanches. Visit the AMERICAN CEMETERY at Omaha Beach. Continue to Sainte Mère Eglise, the first town where American soldiers parachuted into the town the night before D-Day. Among them was John Steele, whose parachute was caught in one of the steeples of the church, made famous in the movie The Longest Day. While here, see the evocative parachute memorial. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided visit of the famous ABBEY OF MONT ST. MICHEL, perched on a rocky isle in the Gulf of Saint Malo. Overnight is on the coast near Mont St. Michel.

Day 5 Mont St. Michel–Châteaubriant–Angers–Loire Valley

Enjoy a scenic ride right across Brittany via Châteaubriant to Angers. Stop here for pictures of the impressive 13th-century castle. Then, continue your journey to the Loire Valley, where you will stay on the grounds of splendid Château du Breuil. Tonight, why not sample French cuisine at one of the area’s excellent restaurants?

Day 6 Loire Valley – Excursion to Châteaux Country

Today, visit two of the most important castles in the area. Start with the jewel of the French Renaissance, CHÂTEAU CHAMBORD. Next is the 16th-century château of Catherine de Medici, lovely CHENONCEAU. Then, enjoy a WINE TASTING at the Père Auguste wine cellar in Civray de Touraine to learn about the local wines before returning to your château, where dinner will be served in the evening.
