Originally a pagan festival in Northern Europe, this holiday was brought to the United States by immigrants from Scotland and Ireland as a celebration of the evening before All Saints Day. In the 1930’s costumes started to appear and by the 1950’s Trick or Treating became popular. Today both children and adults dress in costumes and go door-to-door in hopes to get “treats”.
