Meet your local guide at the hotel.  Discover the historic center of Florence on a (4) four hour tour including; Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, Uffizi Square, the renowned leather market, the Accademia Gallery and Michelangelo’s David.  Stroll along with timeless architectural street-lined wonders of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, admire Florence its continued glory and discover its hidden gems, all in a single morning!
No waiting lines for access to the Accademia Gallery where you can view the wonder of Michelangelo’s 17 foot marble masterpiece of David.  Continuing on to the Florence Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore from where the famous goldsmith Brunelleschi’a dome dominates the Florence’s skyline.  Enter the Duomos through the Baptistry Doors by Ghiberti, coined the “Gates of Paradise” by Michelangelo.  During the walking tour you will learn about the glory of Florence as you visit the heart of the Renaissance Civic and Political Center, famous for its ancient statues and glorious fountains.  Next stop is a visit to the famous Uffizi Gallery and the Medieval Palazzo Vecchio.  Heading on toward the Religious Center and with a visit to the Church of Orsanmichele, where you will admire the ingenious statues by Donataello, Ghiberti and Verrrocchio. Rub the nose of the legendary boar,  “ il Porcellino” to ensure a return visit to Florence and a visit to the Piazza della Repubblica, once the Ancient Forum, now a popular gathering place for famous writers, artists and locals.  The tour will end at the Lungarno Hotel, facing the Ponte Vecchio Bridge.
There will be a late afternoon class with popular chefs to learn the art of creating glorious dishes to write home about.
At evening time you will learn the secrets of how to make Pizza and Gelato just like the Italians do! Supervised by a professional pizza chef called a “pizzaiolo”, you will create your own pizza, learning the tricks of how to make tender, flexible yeast dough that stretches to paper-thinness, and the art of making the most flavorful yet light tomato sauce.  With the pizzaiolo you will make the best pizza you have ever tasted!
The gelato chef will explain why gelato remains Italy’s favorite dessert and a popular international treasure. You will learn the basic raw ingredients and how to select the best products, the importance of natural colors, the heating and freezing techniques and how they effect the different ingredients.  Next you will enjoy a presentation and tasting of some of the flavors used in gelato making. Everyone will enjoy a recipe booklet to share back home.

Day 4: Tuesday, Sept. 15
Journey from Florence to Tuscany with the vibrant villages of San Gimignano and Siena.

Meet your private driver at your Hotel in Florence and transfer to a local family winery hotel in Chianti with stops in San Gimignano and Siena. Siena is considered one of Italy’s loveliest medieval centers.  Its heart is the central piazza known as ll Campo, known around the world for the famous Palio run; a horse race run around the piazza two times every summer.  Amid its narrow streets, a Gothic Duomo, a myriad of early Renaissance art, and the magnificent Palazzo Pubblico overlooking its unique Campo, Siena has been described as the best-preserved medieval city in Italy.  Continuing on to San Gimignano, the drive offers a dramatic view of the Chianti hills blanketed in vineyards and olive trees, with the famous cypresses.  San Gimignano, a quaint walled village not too far from Florence is famous for its medieval architecture and towers that rise high above the neighboring structures offering a majestic view of the surrounding valley.  San Gimignano patrician families are noted for building around 72 tower-houses as symbols of their wealth and power. Before your arrival in San Gimignano, you will enjoy a special wine tasting and lunch in a beautiful mansion in the countryside.  In the late afternoon you will take in a marvelous vista with the Chianti hills all around you.

Day 5: Wednesday, Sept. 16
A Day in Chianti…

After breakfast, meet your expert local driver and guide as you head towards the beautiful Chianti Classico region.  During the drive you will learn about the Chianti region, its history, culture and wines.  You will enjoy a typical taste of Chianti Classico, a Reserva and a fine Super Tuscan wine, paired with local food favorites like salami and cheese.  Lunch will be a tasting with more sample wines and an informal lecture including your questions and thoughts.  The winemaker and sommelier will be at your disposal.  After lunch, you will visit another highly rated winery in the region.  Together with the previous experience you will start to appreciate the range of aromas and flavors that Chianti Classico wines have to offer.  Next on the tour will be a stroll around the lovely Chianti towns such as Greve and Castellina deep in Medieval origins and noted for its wines and local specialty shops and handicrafts.  There you will make great memories will be made.

Day 6: Thursday, Sept. 17
Transfer with your local guide and driver to Montepulciano with a stop in Montalcino.

Discover the magnificent villages of Montalcino and enjoy and savor the wines at a local Estate.  Afterwards, enjoy the drive on to Montepulciano where you will stay for 3 nights in its surrounding beauty.

Day 7: Friday, Sept. 18
Private Full-Day Tour of the Val D’orcia Area: Pienza and Montepulciano

After breakfast, join your driver and guide at your hotel and depart for a visit to Val D’Orcia where you will enjoy the beauty of this special area of Tuscany. View endless rolling hills covered with grain and sunflowers within a rich green valley which encircles the Orcia river, from which the zone derives its name. Note the breathtaking scenery which outlines the vineyards for the renowned Brunello wines and the newest one on the market, the Val d’ Orcia DOC.  You will have free time when you arrive in Pienza to walk around the city center.  This charming village is widely known at the “ideal” Renaissance city by the great humorist, Enea Silvio Piccolomin that later became Pope Pius ll.  Lunch will follow at a local Trattoria.  Continue on to Montepulciano with a guided tour upon arrival. Montepulciano is a medieval town of rare beauty highly recommended as a “must see” when visiting Tuscany.  The city is full of elegant Renaissance palaces, ancient churches, charming squares and hidden corners.  It boasts of vast panoramas of all the wonderful Val d’ Orcia and Val di Chiana valleys that surround it.  Return to the hotel in late afternoon to rest and relax.

Day 8: Saturday, Sept. 19
Meet your driver in the lobby of the hotel after breakfast and transfer to Rome with a stop in Orvieto.

Meet your guide for a private tour of the historic center of Orvieto.  Orvieto is an old town located on a tufa (limestone) outcrop 300 feet above the mesmerizing Paglia valley below. The city is mostly known for its Duomo (Orvieto Cathedral) and is considered one of the most architecturally important in all of Europe for its Etruscan roots and for the their museums where one finds unique collections and displays that represent over 2.500 years of history.  During the tour, you will walk through Orvieto’s charming, narrow valleys and small town squares.  This will be a memorable time perfect for reflecting over while you enjoy a local Umbrian meal and a glass of Orvieto Classico wine.  After lunch you will transfer on to Rome.

Transfers:

Transit Tax:
As of July 1, 2011 all visitors to Italy are required to pay an additional tourist tax for their hotel stay. The new tax has been created mainly to help re-build the ancient cities and is based on how many stars a hotel has. This tax may vary by city and can range from 1 to 6 Euro per person, per night, for a maximum of 10 consecutive nights. This must be paid by the visitor, in Euro, directly to the hotel at time of check-out. It will be presented as a separate charge from any other charges accrued at the hotel. Upon arrival at Bari airport meet your driver and transfer to your hotel in Martina Franca (transfer time to be advised).  Afternoon is free.

Day 3: Monday, Sept. 28
Visit to Alberobello and Polignano a Mare

Meet your driver and explore both cities with your local guide. In Alberobello enjoy a private tour and free time for lunch on your own. Explore this one-of-a-kind city for a half-day tour and discover its famous “trulli” houses with your own private guide. Built by peasants around 700 years ago, the whitewashed, cone-shaped dwellings are now UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE sites.  Learn about their history, as you see how their dry walls were built, ending the lecture with a wine tasting.  Sip on a glass of Puglian wine and learn about the local grapes as you enjoy your drink.  After lunch, continue on to your transfer to Polignano a Mare.  Here you will meet a local guide waiting to start you on your walking tour.  This quaint old town with its medieval structures and breath-taking sea views make this city worthy of a special visit when you are in Puglia.  The statue of the internationally famous singer and composer of Volare’, Domenico Modugno, is the meeting point with your guide.  Take a leisurely stroll through the historical center, the heart of the lovely restored ancient village on the Adriatic coast.
The entrance begins on an old archway into a narrow flag paved street with charming shops and cafes.  Downtown is a matter of culture and history with amazing buildings and a very unique ambiance.  It is a labyrinth of old houses and little squares, all linked to each other, standing huddled together over a series of fringed caves on the sea below.  There is a gorgeous cave restaurant outside the entrance to the citadel with a nearby little coves surrounded by homes built high on the rocks.  Down in the coves is a tiny sandy beach, rocks and restaurants.  This city is a great place to slow down, unwind and enjoy La Dolce Vita. Return to the hotel with your private driver.

Day 4: Tuesday, Sept. 29
Day at leisure.

Perhaps you would enjoy taking an optional walking tour of Bari with focaccia tasting….
Meet your driver and transfer to Bari where you will meet your local guide for a walking tour of the city.  Your visit begins at the Basilica of Saint Nicolas, one of the principal places of worship for Christians in the city. Then enjoy a panoramic walk to Piazza del Ferrarese, Palazzo dell’Acquedotto Pugliese, the Norman-Swabian Castle and the Petruzzelli Theatre. The tour ends with a focaccia or a panzerotti tasting in a local bakery.  After the tour, free time for lunch.  During the trip stop and admire the World Heritage-listed Castel del Monte tucked away in the Puglian hills.  Return to the hotel with your private driver in the late afternoon.

Day 5: Wednesday, Sept. 30
A Day in Ostuni…

Meet your driver and transfer to Ostuni, meeting point with your private guide. Start from Via Cattedrale and admire some of the most important palaces and squares in the old city. Before you reach the Cathedral, there is a stop in front of the Civic Museum and Ostuni to learn about the origins of the city, then visit the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, an interesting example of the Apulian-Gothic style.  Admire the façade with its glorious religious symbol as you walk along the city and take in the fantastic panorama.  Arrive at Piazza della Liberta’ where the statue of Sant’Oronzo and the archaeological site have been recently exhumed.  Return to the hotel with your private driver.

Day 6: Thursday, Oct. 01
Transfer to Lecce and take a private walking tour.

Meet your driver at your hotel in Monopoli and transfer to your hotel in Lecce.  In the afternoon, enjoy a private walking tour with your guide to take in the beauty of the city.  Lecce, is an art city known as the “Florence of the South” or “Baroque Florence”.  It reflects the typical 17th century churches and palaces made of local stone, malleable limestone, which is very pliable for working with a chisel.  Visit the city of Lecce and see the Roman amphitheater built in the Augustan age in order to entertain up to 14,000 spectators on the eastern side of the Roman city.  One side is dug into the soil and the other side is an array of arcades and columns.  It is located near Sant’Oronzo Plaza.

Day 7: Friday, Oct. 02
Private Full-Day Tour of Otranto and Galatina

Meet your private driver in the lobby of your hotel and enjoy a guided tour of Otranto and Galatina.  Discover this magic town in Puglia, a rare gem on the clear waters of the Adriatic sea, rich in architectural beauty, history and traditions. On this 2 ½ hour private tour you will walk through the historic center of Otranto, surrounded by imposing defensive walls.  Here you will have the chance to see the majestic Cathedral of the Annunciation, the Aragonese castle and the Byzantine Church of San Pietro.  Along the protective walls that surround the city, you will spot the Torre Matta (crazy tower), a particular construction that preserves the circular tower model of the 1400th century, incorporated within a pentagonal bastion.   Marvel at the picturesque narrow streets of the old town, and its typical white buildings and experience the ancient history of this place where the Messapic, Greek, Roman and Turkish traditions merge.  Free time for lunch. Later on you will visit Galatina with its beautiful St. Caterina d’Alessandria Church.  You will then be driven back to your hotel in the evening.

Day 8: Saturday, Oct. 03
Private transfer to Sorrento with a stop In Matera.

Meet your private driver in the lobby of your hotel and transfer to Sorrento. There has never been a better time to visit Matera, named the 2019 European Capital of Culture. This unique tour makes the sightseeing logistics easy to get around on foot.  Meet your local guide in Matera for your walking tour.  Enjoy a one-of-a-kind ancient city, the famous Sassi (historical cave dwelling) discover centuries old, rock-hewn churches, sample traditional local snacks, including bread, pastries and wine and visit an artisanal ceramics workshop.  Proceed towards the Piazza Pastures to visit the Sasso Caveoso, where there are narrow streets and ancient neighborhoods.  You won’t want to miss a visit to the House cave and a chance to  climb on Mount Errone, where you can find the Churches of San Giovanni in Monterone (11th century) and Madonna De Idris (13th century).  Next is a visit to the Church of San Pietro Caveoso, with its sober façade of the 17th century.  Continue on with a leisure walk to stop and shop at the many craft workshops to learn about the production of ceramic products of Matera.  At the end of the guided tour in the Sassi, your guide will take you to a food and wine tasting of typical treats such as breads, bagels, pastries and the local wine. Free time for lunch.  After the tour the transfer to Sorrento continues.

Day 9: Sunday, Oct. 04
Positano, Amalfi and Ravello Full-Day Private Tour.

From Sorrento the road winds down to the town of Positano, a romantic and exclusive village ascending down to the sea. The structure of the town is very particular; its buildings cling in tiers to the rock face. The small houses are all huddled on top of each other creating a unique environment.  Amalfi is the main coast town now included in the UNESCO World Heritage sites.  Once a maritime power, it still maintains its medieval atmosphere.  Not far from Amalfi, there’s Ravello, a town that has been an historical destination for artists, musicians and writers, including Richard Wagner who composed some operas here. Ravello is also famous for its villas, such as Villa Cimbrone, dating from around the 11th century AD, which is now a hotel.  The colorful gardens are open to the public.  Villa Rufolo is unique in terms of its architectural and decorative style, which has never failed to inspire, surprise and amaze travelers from all over the world who have visited here over the centuries.

Day 10: Monday, Oct. 05
Anacapri and Capri by Private Boat.

This is a day completely devoted to experience Capri and explore the endless wonders of the most beloved island in the world.  You will discover the Sorrento Coast and the island of Capri from the sea on a leisurely boat tour.  Depart from your hotel and transfer to the port of Piano di Sorrento. Depart for Capri, sailing along the Sorrento coastline.  Along the way you will admire, the ancient fishing village of “Marina Grande” and the ruins of a roman villa nearby called “Bagni della Regina Giovanna” a natural waterfall that flows from the rock with other scenic attractions along the coast.  Next you will arrive in Capri and tour the island by boat with stops to visit the Marvellous Grotto, the White Grotto, the Green Grotto and the famous Blue Grotto.  Along the way you will admire the Natural Arch, the Villa Curzio Malaparte, the Faraglioni rocks and the Lighthouse of Punta Carena. There will be a relaxing break with snacks and beverages offered onboard.  Mooring in the port of the island, you will begin an independent tour of Capri and Anacapri with free time to enjoy the island.  Return to the port of Capri where your skipper will be waiting. Departure from Capri to Sorrento with a final limoncello tasting.  Return to the port of Piano di Sorrento and transfer to your hotel.  To enable you to enjoy all the stages of the tour, there will be a 30 minute or so visit to the Blue Grotto, sea conditions permitting.

Day 11: Tuesday, Oct. 06
Private transfer to Rome with a stop in Pompeii.

Meet your driver in the lobby of the hotel and transfer to Rome.  On route stop at Pompeii for a a guided tour of the archeological park.  Visiting Pompeii is an unforgettable experience.  Once an important commercial center and now almost 2,000 years later, it offers visitors the opportunity to see how a city existed at that time, because the lava preserved the city.  Your visit will include Villa dei Misteri built in the first half of the 11th century B.C. with its frescoes depicting the initiation of the Dionysian mysteries.

Day 12: Wednesday, Oct. 07
The Vatican and the Heart of Rome

In the morning, meet your guide at the Vatican and join a small group for a private visit to the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel.  Your tour will focus on the must-sees and famous masterpieces of the Vatican such as; the Sistine Chapel, the Raphael Rooms, Michelangelo’s Dome, Pinecone Courtyard, St. Peter’s Basilica, St. Peter’s Square and more.  Following your visit of the Sistine Chapel, you will enter what many consider one of the wonders of the world and the most magnificent church on earth – St. Peter’s Basilica. Your tour will end outside in the spacious square designed by Bernini.

A deposit of 25% of the total price of the land services, inclusive of taxes and fees or full payment (depending on departure date) is required to confirm a reservation. Final payment is due no later than 90 days prior to departure. Airline tickets must be paid in full prior to issuance regardless of departure date. Cancellation Policy
61 days or more prior to departure: 5% of package price
60-46 days prior to departure: 10% of package price
45-31 days prior to departure: 20% of package price
30-15 days prior to departure: 40% of package price
14-8 days prior to departure: 50% of package price
7-0 days and no-shows: 100% of package price

TRAVEL TIPS:

Gratuities:
Tips to waiters, chambermaids, and to the Tour Directors, local guides, and drivers are not included. The following is a suggested guideline on tipping:
(a.) Euro 1.00 per person/per day for waiters and chambermaids
(b.) Euro 2.00 per person/per day for drivers and local guides
(c.) Euro 3.00 per person/per day for your Tour Director
Transfers:
Add transfers to your tour so you don’t have to worry about how to get to your hotel and back. Prices available upon request.
Transit Tax:
As of July 1, 2011 all visitors to Italy are required to pay an additional tourist tax for their hotel stay. The new tax has been created mainly to help re-build the ancient cities and is based on how many stars a hotel has. This tax may vary by city and can range from 1 to 6 Euro per person, per night, for a maximum of 10 consecutive nights. This must be paid by the visitor, in Euro, directly to the hotel at time of check-out. It will be presented as a separate charge from any other charges accrued at the hotel. (Children under the age of 10 are exempt from this tax.

Air Transportation:
Air fares change often and vary by gateway city, season, day of week and seat availability. Our air fares will be quoted to you within two business days of your tour reservation and will include the air fare, fuel surcharges and government taxes as quoted by the airlines. You are under no obligation to accept our airfare quote and may elect to use your reward miles or your preferred airline. Typical airfares from New York to Rome varies from $1200 in March – May and September – October to $1500 in June – August but can change without prior notice. We highly recommend to reserve your seats early in order to obtain the best air fare.
